Frequently (or even infrequently) Asked Questions

Got questions? You can just email us at gtsystem at aadl dot org, or post your questions right here.

How much does it cost? I know eli had a menu previously. Is that still available?

Eli says: We don't have a list of equipment to hold a GT System event yet, but that menu you're looking for can be found here: http://www.aadl.org/files/aadlgamemenu.pdf. However, our plans for GT System should allow you to run a System event of any size, so you may be able to borrow a console or two and not have to buy anything at first. More to come!

Alice asks: Are the competitions platform specific? We do a majority of our programming on PS2.

Ian says: No, we hold events using a variety of consoles and the software is designed for generic tournaments. I'm not aware of the software they use to video capture events, but all the rest is completely run without platform input.

Tom says: Well, certaing games such as Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. are obviously run on Gamecubes, but other games such as DDR and Guitar Hero II are run on the PS2. However, the tournament software that is used is non-console specific, so it can be used for any game. I'm pretty sure this is true, but, like Ian, I will leave it up to Eli to correct any mistakes.

Eli says: Knock it off you helpful whippersnappers! (Tom and Ian are two of our players who have aged out and help produce the events). GT System will allow you to run a tournament using any platform. However, the GT System 2008 Coordinated Event Series will be platform-specific, with the Super Smash and Double Dash and Pokemon events requiring Nintendo Hardware, and the Revolution Hero series requiring PS2 hardware. See a little more on the gtseries page.

Alice says: Thanks. That leads me to one additional question. Can you tell me when might we know if we have been selected as a beta partner for the Coordinated Event Series?

Crystal asks: This may seem like a weird request, but I'm dealing with some cyberstalking and I don't want my work e-mail in the hands of someone. I just added my name and e-mail to your list for beta testing. Is there a way to make our work e-mails more private? Thank you.

Ian: I don't know about the beta partners, but I'll mention the cyberstalking to Eli.

Kellie asks: How many stations will you need to host a tournament? My library has a space that could hold one station comfortably or two with lots of toe crunching.
